How Blogging Helps With Finding Flatmates and Getting Jobs

One of the many really cool things about having my own website is that, over time, it can help with things like getting jobs, getting past the worlds' gatekeepers and finding places to live. Take any situation where you have to make a decision about someone you've just met and a personal website becomes useful.

When it comes to hiring someone or choosing a housemate the ideal would be to get to know several people over a long period of time and then make your decision based on your interactions with them after the honeymoon period has worn off and they start showing their true colours.

That just isn't practical so instead we rely on a mix of gut feeling and paperwork in the form of references.

That's why I love having this site so much: it gives me a work-around.

The longer I maintain a personal site the more trustworthy it becomes and the more useful it is as a shortcut for getting to know me.

UPDATE (20th August): I wrote this post while looking for a place to live and found a place within a few days of starting to look. I've been there since the 10th (within 8 days of this post).
